Agar wood is also known as agar Aloes wood, aloes, aloe wood and aloe in English, agaru in Sanskrit, oudh in Arabic. It is an extremely rare and precious aromatic natural resource which can be used for high quality incense, perfume, and traditional medicines. The Chinese describe its smell as "a sweet, deep but balanced fragrance" and continue to use it in religious and festive celebrations, as do Arabians, Indian and Japanese people. It is considered one of the costliest perfumery raw materials used in high class perfumery and as a fixative, imparting a lasting balsamic odour to the product. Unlike many industrial perfumes, it is suitable for hot climates as the longer you wear it, the better it smells! Hence, it has been rightly called the 'Parent of Perfumes' and 'King of Incence'. Moreover, it has been used in treatment of lung and stomach tumors. It is very useful in nervous disorders digestive, bronchial complaints, smallpox, rheumatism, illness during and after childbirth, spasms in the digestive and respiratory systems, fevers, abdominal pain, asthma, cancer, colic, diarrhoea, nausea, regurgitation, weakness in the elderly, shortness of breath, chills, general pains. Essential Oils extracted from Chitra Nella, Sugandh Mantri, Lemon Grass are used as insecticides, mosquito repellants and fragrance. Different flower oils are used for perfume, fragrance and incenses.

Agarwood has been used to make high quality incense since antiquity. The Aloe mentioned in the Bible, Aloe wood (Ud-ul-Hind) in Paradise as incense mentioned in the famous Al-Hadith-Sali Al-Bukhari, mentions of 'agaru' of ancient Kamrupa (now Assam) in the report of Chinese Pilgrim like Hiuen- Tsang proves the point. After conquering the capital of last king Gaur Govind in 1384 A.D. in Sylhet Saint Fakir Shah Jalal (RA) and his followers found Agarwood and Agar-attar along with many other valuables in the Royal store. This indicates that distillation of agar oil was done during thirteen century or even early in undivided Assam. Assam agaru used to go to Calcutta, Mumbai and Delhi and from there to Turkey, Arabia, Persia and Europe. At present Indian 'agaru' is largely exported to Arab countries where it is used as incense and also in the manufacture of joss sticks.

Assam is called the Home of the finest quality of Agar. The climate and the landscape of Assam are best suited for Agar tree plantation. At present, in NE India 100% of raw materials supply to the distillers and processors are coming from private plantations mostly from homestead planting in Golaghat, Jorhat and Sibsagar district of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and also through import.Of late, organized commercial plantations have ensured better supply of the raw materials. Thus, Assam remains one of the leading producers of Agar wood and Agar wood products. There is a high demand of Agar wood of Assam in the markets of the South East Asia, Middle East and Japan because of its best quality aroma. True Indian Agar wood oil is the epitome of the pure Oudh fragrance. This Oudh possesses a deep, musky, and highly therapeutic aroma. Its ethereal scent releases into a rich mystical fragrance with exotic light and deep notes.

The MJI Group is one of the largest producers of best quality Agar Oudh, Oil, Boya from Agar. Essential Oils and Aroma Oils from Chitra nella, Sugandh mantri, Lemon grass, Floriculture, Medicinal Plant, etc.

Since 'agaru' is located deep within the trunk, its detection from outer appearance is not easy. Generally, such trees are distinguished by some external features like poor and stunted crown development, the presence of swellings or cracks or depressions and cankers on the bole, signs of ill health particularly a die-back symptoms of the top and outer branches and a yellow tint to the woody tissues and also smaller leaves. Moreover, in deep alluvial soils or sandy loam soils the tree always shows a luxuriant uninterrupted growth but in rocky soils, clay soils the tree looks undergoing certain amount of stress particularly during winter. These symptoms are very often associated with oil synthesis in the wood. There are no practical gadgets available so far for detecting the right tree to be felled. Only people who have developed the skill of identifying agar-bearing tree through experience detect trees for felling. Sometimes screw augurs are driven inside at various depth and samples are drawn for examination.

So, these are the unavoidable challenges in the extraction of best quality Agar and Essential Oils. The MJI Group is proud of its highly skilled and experienced staff who are able to meet all these challenges to provide you with the best quality Agar Oudh, Oil, Boya from Agar. Essential Oils and Aroma Oils from Chitra nella, Sugandh mantri, Lemon grass, Floriculture, Medicinal Plant, etc.

Producing Agar wood begins with the Agar (Aquilaria) tree being infected by a fungus. On infection the tree activates its special defense mechanism to fend off the pathogens. The infected trees secrete a fragrant, protective oil into wounded areas (roots, branches or sections of the trunk), which gradually become harder and darker. The Agar wood (black resinous wood) is the most exalted perfumery raw materials obtained from the infected wood of this Agar (Aquilaria) tree.
Agar Oil or Agaru or Agar Attar and all kind of essential oils are prepared by distillation of the transformed raw material from Agar, Chitra nella, Sugandh mantri, Lemon grass, Floriculture, etc. and Aroma Oils from Medicinal plants.
